Black History Month

October sees the return of Black History Month, and this year more than ever, it is important to take this time to learn more about and celebrate the achievements of black men and women in the UK.

The UK first celebrated Black History Month back in 1987, and continues to do so annually, along with Germany, the Netherlands, Canada and the United States. It is a time to focus on the contribution made to British society by black men and women throughout history.

‘Black history month allows a celebration of the valuable heritage of the African diaspora. UK Black history is important every single month.’

Says Tanoh Danso, Senior Paramedic and Vice Chair of the BME Network.

‘Our achievements and contributions within UK society has helped mould the present and will always be an integral part of building a better future for all.’

Here at EEAST, we will be celebrating Black History Month by sharing stories from our own staff, as well as significant figures from the East of England. We will also share details of events that will be taking place throughout October, which we encourage you all to attend.

Our EEAST BME Network will also be hosting their own virtual event, which you are all invited to join, further details of which will be shared here on Need to Know.
