Body worn cameras to start being trialled

LAS body worn cameras

EEAST is now at a stage to start an initial trial of the use of body worn cameras at Waveney Ambulance Station from Tuesday 7th September.

The trial, involving around 10 members of staff, aims to assess the cameras and the standing operating procedure [SOP] that works alongside it over a two-week period, resolving any teething problems that may arise.

If this proves successful, the trial of the cameras will be widened to the rest of the staff working out of Waveney later this month.

A programme for the introduction of the cameras at the 18 other ambulance stations designated in this first phase of the roll-out will then be finalised.

We are fully aware that many staff will be keen to see the introduction as soon as possible to provide an added layer of protection against violence and aggression.

It is important, however, to get the processes right on the operation and governance around the use of the cameras before the wider roll-out.  We will keep you updated on the progress.
