“Brilliant results” from hospital conveyance audit

A four-day audit at Broomfield Hospital, Essex has found that our crews made the correct decision to take a patient to hospital 96% of the time.

The 48-hour audit was carried out during high demand times from Saturday to Tuesday, by EEAST hospital ambulance liaison officer and the triage nurse and nurse-in-charge on shift at Broomfield.

Out of 152 patients taken to A&E, only six could have been treated via an alternative care pathway.

The joint audit was carried out as part of Broomfield’s recovery plan and requested by the Trust Development Authority (TDA). EEAST and the nurses were present for every patient’s handover and made a decision afterwards as to whether it was suitable to bring them to A&E.

The full results will be presented to the TDA next week.
