Busiest weekend of 2014

The Trust received 6,424 emergency 999 calls on Saturday and Sunday, making it the busiest weekend of the year so far.

We took 300 more calls than the previous busiest weekend, with 3,225 calls on Saturday, and 3,199 on Sunday. In total, 2,789 people were taken to hospital over the two days.

Chief Executive Anthony Marsh said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their efforts over the weekend: from our call handlers, to our dispatchers, to all of the crews working on the road, and of course our volunteers. You work really hard day in day out but particularly on busy days such as this weekend, it is very much appreciated.”

The high number of calls coincided with soaring temperatures across the country, and the Trust had previously issued health advice to help people cope with the hot weather.
