Charity football match in memory of Gary

Ambulance staff and A&E colleagues in Suffolk will line-up against each other for an inaugural charity football match.

Teams from EEAST and Ipswich Hospital’s emergency department will kick-off for the Gary Smithen Memorial Cup on Saturday, 15^th April.

The game, at the Ipswich Wanderers ground, will be played in memory of our former colleague Gary, a paramedic, who sadly passed away last year.

Organisers hope the memorial cup match will become an annual event and all proceeds will go towards the Ipswich Outreach Bus, which aims to support homeless and vulnerable people.

Emergency Medical Technician Jay Walting said: “There has been a lot of interest with each squad having 20 players, from management to mechanics to receptionists. It would be great to see as many supporters as possible there.”

Gates open at 1pm and the game kicks-off at 3pm at the ground on Humner Doucy Lane, Ipswich. Managers will be in fancy dress, there will be a half time dancing from majorettes, and a prize for the child with the best banner.

Admission is £5 for adults and £1 for under 16s.
