Clinical waste: what to do with the paperwork

Sharps box

When clinical waste is collected from our sites, three pieces of paperwork will be produced by the waste transfer operative.

One of these is the ‘producers copy’, which records the weight and number of bags of waste produced by each site.

This document needs to be kept on each Trust site producing clinical waste for a three year period, so that if the Environment Agency wish to undertake an audit, it is able to check our records. This is a legal requirement.

The clinical waste team ask that any copies are please filed away in a safe and secure place.

If you have any queries, please contact the team by emailing waste@eastamb.nhs.uk.
