Control room staff invited to join new working group

Bedford EOC 1

In late October, the emergency control room launched the Quality Improvement Unit (QIU) working group. This group has been set up as part of the ongoing work for the Trust to become an Accredited Centre of Excellence (ACE) with the International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch (IAEDs -the organisation behind the MPDS triage system).

This group consists of a number of EOC staff (call handlers, senior call handlers, CHTLS, auditors, trainers, clinical coordinators and senior EOC manager) who meet on a bi-monthly basis at various Trust venues. And are looking for new recruits to the team.

The purpose of the group is to review EOC procedures, instructions or process changes to determine if they will incur any clinical risk or safety issues for patients or staff. They will review the use of the MPDS, identifying any areas of concern to escalate to the EOC clinical focus group and CQSG where required.

The group will also produce continuing dispatch education for call handlers and put forward suggestions to change the MPDS protocols where the Trust feels that improvements can be made.

Each year the Trust nominates call handlers for the IAEDs ‘Dispatcher of the Year’ award. This group will assist in collating potential nominations and ensure that all staff know about this award opportunity.

If you would like further information or would like to be a part of this group, please email EOCcommunications@eastamb.nhs.uk and enter QIU in the subject box.
