Data Quality – Understanding Ambulance Quality Indicators (AQI)

Ambulance line up blue sky

The Ambulance Quality Indicators (AQI) are a series of standards, indicators and measures used by all Ambulances Trusts to ensure that all aspects of ambulance performance are measured accurately and consistently.

The Ambulance Quality Indicators: Data specification for Systems Indicators (AmbSYS) document covers these standards, indicators and measures in detail, which are implemented by Trusts CAD provision and used by the Information team to generate logic for reporting.

Documentation is complex and can occasionally be misinterpreted. The AOC, Ops, Information and Data Quality teams work together to ensure reporting is accurate and in compliance with the AmbSYS document. There are also national groups where interpretation and reporting are discussed and clarified.

Data Quality has received requests from some staff to help better understand the AQIs in order to identify when reporting errors occur. The presentation, to download below, focuses on one specific area, calculating response times, and include a description of how the 'Clock Start' and ‘Clock Stop’ times are triggered.

Further presentations will follow on different areas of the AQIs, please email the Data Quality inbox if you have any queries.
