Delayed handover protocol: New for Monday 26th February

Patient safety comes first and we are working with NHS partners across the system to improve further – thank you for everything you’re doing which contributes to this.

A new process has been put together to transfer patients to hospital care safely and quickly, which is being introduced across region, and aims to get ambulance crews back out on the road to support patients in the community.

From 09:00hrs on Monday, a clear escalation procedure will be in place if ambulance crews have to wait longer than 15 minutes to handover a patient. If the patient is waiting for more than 30 minutes, hospitals and ambulance crews are to work in partnership to ensure safe transfer.

Management teams have received the ops instruction which can be found on East24 here, a briefing, and FAQs to help you navigate the new protocol, and you should see copies of this on your vehicles when working on Monday morning. Posters will be distributed next week as well, and we hope to produce a pocket-card for patient-facing staff.

If you have any questions, please speak with your line manager or comment below and your question will be answered as soon as possible.
