Different drugs for anticoagulation

Please could all staff be aware of newer, different forms of anticoagulants that are prescribed to patients. While we have a good knowledge of Warfarin, these newer drugs need to be recognised when considering anticoagulation, especially in trauma and other relevant patient conditions.

The newer medications are:

Rivaroxaban (Xarelto®)

Dabigatran (Pradaxa®)

Apixaban (Eliquis®)

Further information on the medication can be found on the electronic medicines compendium (eMC) website.
