Dragons Den update - mental health first aiders

As some of you may recall at the end of last year, the Trust held a Dragon’s Den style event for managers from across the Trust to present ideas for improvement.

Matt Bell and Louise Donno pitched an idea to provide mental health first aid training throughout the Trust and were successfully sponsored by Dorothy Hosein. Here Matt and Louise give us an update of what’s happened since the den.

The idea presented by our team was training mental health first aiders to help identify colleagues who may be struggling with mental ill health, and have the conversation and then sign post them to the help they require.

We wanted to provide you with an update on the progress of this project. We know that staff feel very passionate about getting this off the ground and be know that the wheels are moving.

We met with Duncan Moore, Clinical Lead for mental health, the weekend before Christmas and discussed our ideas and vision surrounding the mental health and wellbeing of our colleagues. The next step is a workshop which is being held tomorrow, 7th February, for everyone involved with mental health projects to share their progress, learn from each other and what work has already been done. Dorothy Hosein has spent time with us as our Sponsor and will also be attending the workshop on 7th February.

Towards the end of this month we are meeting with an organisation called Connecting With People, who provide training and resources to assist with mental ill health, this will give us a chance to see what they can offer EEAST and whether it will fit in with our requirements.
