As another busy Easter period comes to a close, which saw our control rooms receive more than 11,700 emergency calls, we would like to say a huge thank you for all your efforts.

As thousands across the east of England enjoyed a four-day weekend, many of you as our staff and volunteers worked round the clock to care for those who needed it most.

Although our call numbers went down compared to last year it was still a busy one, with our patient-facing teams responding to more than 8,500 incidents across the region.

  • Saturday was the Trust’s busiest day of the Easter weekend, with more than 3,000 calls received – slightly less than the 3,200 last Easter Saturday.
  • The Trust received 2,826 calls on Good Friday and 2,801 on Easter Monday.
  • In total, the Trust sent a response to 8,513 incidents over the four day Easter period, compared to 9,188 in 2016.

Chief Executive Robert Morton said: “Thank you for your continual hard work during another busy bank holiday weekend.

“Whilst it still felt exceptionally busy, our call numbers did go down compared to last year’s Easter bank holiday period, which we hope in part is down to our continued reminders to the public to consider alternate pathways such as 111, walk-in centres, GPs, and pharmacists if the call is not a genuine medical emergency.

“I hope those of you that worked or volunteered across the four-day period still managed to enjoy some time with your loved-ones – and eat a chocolate egg or two!”
