New one-stop-shop recruitment drive

The Trust is currently trialling an innovative, one-stop-shop recruitment drive, to make it easier for people to join EEAST.

Jobseekers can now find out more about frontline roles and be offered an interview on the same day. EEAST is trialling this method, to recruit patient transport drivers and ambulance care assistants, in the Watford, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans areas.

It sees EEAST take the recruitment process to the candidates, by going into job centres and giving a presentation about the roles available and the benefits of working for the service. Anyone interested in applying can go on to sit an interview the same day, with successful candidates able to then arrange their start date and training.

The initiative has been introduced to help fill vacancies in our patient transport service, which helps disabled, elderly, sick or vulnerable people get to and from outpatient clinics, day care centres and routine hospital admissions.

Dave Tamarro, Leading Operations Manager, within EEAST, has spearheaded the project. He said:

“We are always looking for innovative new ways to attract the brightest and best staff to EEAST, and hope this new initiative will help us to do just that. By taking our whole recruitment process into local job centres, rather than asking candidates to come to us, we hope to make it easier, quicker and more convenient for people to find out about roles with the service and be offered an interview.

“The initiative has been going really well so far, and we’ve had some great feedback from both the candidates and the job centres. It has also given us the chance to explain more about the rewarding roles we have available and the benefits people will receive, while also showing why EEAST is such a great place to work.

“We are looking forward to holding more recruitment sessions in local job centres soon, so that we can welcome even more new colleagues to our team.”

Patient transport drivers and ambulance care assistants look after passengers during their journey and make sure they are safe and comfortable. The role is suitable for people with good communications skills and a caring and professional attitude.

Candidates do not require any specific qualifications or skills, although experience of working within the care sector is desirable. Successful applicants will be given all of the training necessary, including a driving course.
