UPDATE- Enhanced overtime rates over Festive period - Operations

Following a review our busiest night of the year staffing and demand predictions,  both EOC and front line capacity for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day have improved and need further improvement.

The Trust is making a small but important variation to the advertised enhanced arrangements published on Need to Know recently.

We fully recognise the value of every persons contribution at all times and most especially over the New Year, which for many means time away from loved ones who support you to enable you to care for your patients.  We also recognise that when there is variation it can feel dis-incentivising to others.

To address the needs of the Trust and recognising the value of our people, the following amendment to the advertised scheme applies. All other elements remain as shown.

The variation to the published Operations scheme is below:


  • Any member of staff who is rostered for working between the hours of 1400hrs on 31 December 2017 and 2359hrs on 1st January 2018 and who in total complete more than six hours or more will qualify for a one off payment as follows:
    • Between six and eight hours- £75
    • Eight-12hrs- £100
    • Over 12 hours- £125.

This payment is providing that there is no absence from work (excluding annual leave) between 24th December 17 and 7th January 18

  • The additional overtime enhancements remain as advertised.
  • EOC staff should refer to the current scheme and any amendment that follows.
  • All staff listed in the existing schemes are included


We thank you for your feedback on the current incentive which is in place for reasons of exceptional circumstance of demand and system wide delays which impact on our capacity.

It is not possible using public money to buy gifts as alternatives, but thank you for asking and we have listened.  It is also not normal or covered by AfC to enhance rates of pay routinely and this Trust is taking this action from reserves in the interest of supporting patient safety and our staff delivering the service.
