The Siren Nova iOS ePCR system went live across mid and south Essex on Thursday (16 September). The real time inbound patient information system Siren Notification Board was also activated at Broomfield, Southend, and Basildon and Thurrock hospitals the same day.

Within the first 24 hours, the following iPad ePCRs were created:

  • 65 for Basildon & Thurrock Hospital
  • 94 for Broomfield Hospital
  • 56 for Southend Hospital

These contributed to a total 1406 ePCRs created in just one day using iPads across all five regions, including Bedfordshire, Cambridge and Peterborough, Norfolk and Waveney, Suffolk and north Essex.

Ben Novell and Nikki Steerment, who are based in Basildon, were the first crew to create an ePCR sent to Basildon hospital. The first ePCR sent to Broomfield Hospital was created by and Lee Cousins and crewmate Matt Ross.

Donna Wilson from reception in Majors at Basildon Hospital said: “(Siren Notification Board is a) very simple system provides accurate information that speeds the process up.”

As expected, reap and surge levels added extra challenges in the lead up to go live, while vital IT infrastructure work to improve the speed at which patient information could be transferred between iPads and the hospitals also delayed the launch.
