EpiPen and EpiPen Junior

Advice on EpiPens expiry date from Department of Health & Social Care

Sector heads are sharing a clinical briefing on this advice, which all health care professionals who advise patients and their carers should ensure they are doing.

It is important when validating the expiry date of the product (as it expires on the last day of the month e.g. label says April 2019) that it does not expire until the end of April 2019.

Certain batches of adult EpiPen can be safely used for a further FOUR months after the expiry date- please see batches listed in this briefing.

Patients should be advised NOT to dispose of their expired EpiPen until they have replacements.

This extended use does not apply to EpiPen 150mcg autoÔÇÉinjectors or any lot number of Epipen 300mcg auto-injectors not specified.

Full information with regards this can be obtained from your Medicines Management Lead and Sector Head.
