Freezing fog expected overnight

Wise Up For Winter 16 logo

With temperatures set to plummet from 6pm tonight (5th December), we’re expecting to see patches of dense, freezing fog forming across the region.

These weather conditions can make driving especially tricky, with visibility less than 100 metres, and there’s also a risk of ice developing; please take extra care if you’re on shift tonight and on your journey to and from work, as conditions can change very suddenly and it’s likely to be slippery on the ground under both foot and tyre.

With the Met Office predicting that these freezing temperatures will last until around 10am tomorrow, please consider leaving extra time in the morning to allow for defrosting vehicles and driving in potentially foggy conditions.

Please also make sure you’re wrapped up warm, and check your station for grit availability that can make driving easier.

As the week goes on it’s due to become milder across our patch, so we aren’t expecting any further warnings at this time.
