From ‘the Beast in the East’ to ‘Stars of Norfolk and Waveney’

EDP Awards

Congratulations to the EEAST team who won ‘Hospital/Ambulance hero of the year’ at the EDP Stars of Norfolk and Waveney Awards on Wednesday night for their efforts in helping a patient cut off by the Beast from the East.

It was the 20-minute job that turned into something like an Arctic expedition. Taking almost nine hours and needing to call in assistance from the HART team and Norfolk Fire Service to get to a patient experiencing breathing difficulties.

Rob Adams, Lisa Gill, Alastar Perry, and Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) colleagues Jane Salter, Martyn Gell and Anne-Louise Muir trekked three miles, pulling a sledge of equipment over fields and blocked roads as they battling through drifting snow and dangerous roads to get to their patient stranded in Chedgrave when the Beast hit back in March.

The team decided on evening to split their winner’s cheque between two well-deserving Norfolk charities – Nelson’s Journey and Finnbar’s Force.

Congratulations to you all!
