Full steam ahead for new ambulance hub in Stevenage

Over the past few years we have outgrown our facilities at Stevenage Fire station and we wanted to develop a new ambulance hub which could be a make ready depot; a station where we have enough space to prepare ambulances and RRVs for staff before they come on shift. This will also have some training facilities and provide a better environment for staff to work from.

Stevenage is a good example of the new estates transformation plan that has been approved by the Trust Board and which builds on the ‘make ready’ strategy approved in January last year. It is about investing in our estate so that we can enhance our reach into local communities and provide better facilities for staff. The new hub will be located in Babbage Road in Stevenage and the property was officially handed over to us today (Friday 10 May). The existing ambulance station will be retained at the fire station as a community ambulance station and Letchworth will remain as an ambulance station. In Letchworth we will be incorporating a supply chain function, which will replace the previous stores function in Dunstable.

Steve Davey, senior locality manager for East and North Herts said: “The development of our new ambulance hub in Stevenage is great news. It will mean that we can give staff a better facility to work from and we can look to implement make ready, so ambulances are prepared for staff which helps to reduce some of the pressure on them. We will also have a training facility, something we haven’t had in Stevenage before. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this project – it has been a massive amount of work to get to this point where we are now starting to move in; thank you”

We are planning to move into the new ambulance station over the next week and will be posting some pictures of the site soon.
