Going ‘ED to ED’ for Gary

Players went ‘ED to ED’ at the weekend for the Gary Smithen Memorial Cup.

The football game between our ambulance team and the Ipswich Hospital emergency department took place on Saturday (15th April), and raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Our A&E colleagues were the victors on the day at the Ipswich Wanderers ground. The match was arranged in memory of our much-loved colleague, Paramedic Gary Smithen, who we lost last year, and the organisers are hoping to make the memorial cup match an annual event.

All proceeds will go towards the Ipswich Outreach Bus, which aims to support homeless people and vulnerable people in the town.

Technician Jay Watling said: “It was a great day. A&E won by two goals to nil in what was a very close match. We raised £1,020 at final count, which is superb.”
