HART paramedic takes on 70k trek

Mark Wheaton

HART Paramedic Mark  is taking on a 70k trek in the Grand Canyon to raise money for a cancer charity in Essex.

The charity, Together in West Essex, helps to provide relief to breast cancer sufferers in west Essex by contributing towards equipment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and towards research at St Margarets Hospital in Epping.

Mark said: “Having lost a couple of friends to cancer I want to help eradicate this terrible disease. Together in West Essex funds specialist clinical trials equipment, introduces new initiatives and supports further research – of the 350 patients diagnosed with breast cancer at St Margaret’s hospital each year, around 10% will benefit from treatments that aren’t standard on the NHS.”

Mark will fly out to Nevada in April and take part in the 11-day trek from the 23rd. He added: “Walking in the heat of the desert and differing altitudes will be a challenge.”

To help Mark raise £5,000 for the charity, visit his JustGiving page or you can text MGCT 49 to 70070 with a donation amount.
