Paramedic Jamie Gray from Waveney station faced every parent’s nightmare when son Ollie was diagnosed with Leukaemia.

Little Ollie, who also had Down’s syndrome, fought against the odds and battled for five years before he passed away in September 2015.

The whole family was deeply affected by what happened to Ollie and wanted to do their bit for other families facing the same situation.

Ollie’s family said; “We would like to help with costs of living in hospital, travelling to and from, parking and so on. Just to provide some relief and entertainment to the families and also to help bereaved children who have lost brothers or sisters to this awful disease. We cannot express our sadness and emptiness after losing Ollie, but we’re hoping we can do just a little to help families and maybe bring a little light to their fight.”

And so Ollie’s Heroes was born.

Now a registered UK charity, they hold events to raise funds, and you can do your bit too. On Saturday, 13th May there will be a cake sale at Carlton Colville Community Centre in Lowestoft from 2-4pm. During the sale there will be a grand raffle with the top prize being a weekend break for a two at Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton.

For a list of other prizes visit the Ollie’s Heroes website. Tickets cost £2.00 per strip or three strips for £5.00, and can be purchased via paypal using Olliesheroes10@gmail.com. You also have the opportunity to bit on a signed Norwich City football on Facebook.
