Improvements made with occupational health provider: an update from Ruth McAll

Director of HR, Ruth McAll, details the recent work with PAM on improvements to the service they provide and how to access it in the most effective way, following staff feedback:

We have been working extensively with PAM, the Trust’s occupational health (OH) provider, and I am pleased to tell you about some of the key changes we have made together:

  • PAM have created a central wellbeing team who will monitor progress of every referral to ensure the response is effective.
  • A clinical team who are dedicated to psychological referrals, which includes a telephone assessment to ensure the appropriate pathway is followed.
  • Return to work reports and the opportunity for managers to discuss over the telephone with the clinical team any issues concerning this return to work
  • OHIO – is being upgraded and streamlined which will make referrals easier and this will also have choose and book and texting options.

From these changes, you can now expect:

  • Following the initial contact with PAM, every employee will be referred to the appropriate pathway within two working days; if this isn’t successful initially, a further three attempts will be made over the following five working days.
  • If this contact fails, the PAM team will contact the referral manager.
  • If treatment or therapy is required, this will be offered within five working days.

A new online pack on East24 includes the OH policy, flow chart for psychological and wellbeing referrals, management referral and physiotherapy referrals. PAM will be arranging meetings within each locality to discuss these changes and to ensure any issues are resolved quickly.

It is extremely important that the Trust ensures the OH service appropriately supports staff and managers and with the changes listed above, we are confident that this will be achieved. If you have any questions or concerns though, please email me – ruth.mcall@eastamb.nhs.uk.
