Introducing Fit for the Future

Ambulance side shot

This month sees the start of the Trust’s 'Fit for the Future’ Programme. This is a developing programme of work focusing on the longer term improvements needed to ensure that we deliver consistently high quality, safe and effective care, underpinned by a culture which makes EEAST an exceptional place to work and volunteer.

Tom Abell, our new CEO, has spoken about the culture he wants to see in place to drive forward our improvement. It is a culture where people feel they all belong; where we can speak up and challenge and where we always put our people and patients first. There is not one single thing that will improve our culture but a whole range of activities and changes.

‘Fit for the Future’ includes five key work streams which will focus on the strategic and operational steps we need to take to strengthen and improve the culture of EEAST. It will be a multi-year programme of work, with the next year focusing on getting the foundations and basics right.

The key work streams are:

  • Culture – including values, behaviours and focusing on key elements contributing to healthy organisational culture. Led by Dr Tom Davis (Medical Director) and Ali Lowe (Head of OD)
  • Workforce – focusing on our people and strengthening HR support to teams. Led by Bob Champion (Interim Director of Workforce) and Sudha Pavanakumar (Deputy Director of Workforce)
  • System Partnership – developing positive and effective relationships with all our ICSs and external stakeholders. Led by Kevin Smith (Director of Finance) and Gita Prasad Deputy Director of Business and Partnerships
  • Capability and Capacity – developing our people to be excellent leaders. Led by Marcus Bailey (Chief Operating Officer) and Linda Gove (Head of Governance)
  • Demonstrating impact – improving how we look at information to ensure we deliver consistently high quality, effective care. Led by Tom Davis (Medical Director) and Nicky Ward (Head of Strategy & Transformation)

As the programme gets going we will share more information, including opportunities to get involved and engagement events.
