Innovative new advances with technology and e-learning are the main focus of the latest edition of REDistribute, a newsletter from the Resilience and Emergencies Division (RED).
The Government based group also looks into joint effective working when it comes to the winter period and lessons learned from past experiences.
The edition looks at the launch of the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Programme (JESIP) app. The app aims to help staff, especially those attending major incidents, by providing essential reminders about the five principles of joint working, METHANE and the Joint Decision Model (JDM).
The app is free to download and available on all apple or android phones and tablets. It also includes useful prompts and checklists including:
For further information on the app, please see the JESIP website at www.jesip.org.uk
Another topic the newsletter looks at is the need for education and training on natural disasters. It looks into a project that the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service have been working on with European partners, developing a series of e-learning modules on responding to such disasters.
The project focuses on four types of natural disaster: floods, storms, heat waves and wildfires. The e-learning has been tailored to the needs of four different target groups: primary and secondary school children, adults and emergency service responders/ professionals.
The e-learning is free to use and can be found at www.e-ppr.eu.
