Leadership message from Alan Whitehead

Alan Whitehead

It seems like only yesterday I was writing the previous leadership message. However, since then we have come out of lockdown, the children have returned to school and hopefully you will all have had some time off relaxing with your families and enjoying the recent good weather.

The challenges that we have faced over the last six months unfortunately have not gone away and with the 2nd wave of COVID looming just prior to the start of winter, I expect us to have one of our most difficult periods in many years. However, I am assured that the professionalism and dedication of all staff and managers within the Sector will allow us to get through this period whilst still supporting each other and delivering high quality care to our patients. It is imperative that during the next few months we continue to look after one another and I would ask that if any of you have concerns for any members of staff, you bring this to our attention in order that we may be able to support them.

It is important that we all adhere to social distancing and the measures that we have put in place to protect ourselves and our patients. This includes leading by example by wearing face masks, social distancing, handwashing, and self-isolation as required. It is only by doing this that we will break the cycle of this infection which has affected so many of our friends, families and colleagues.

We have made good progress this year. We have delivered sustained performance against national targets. We are delivering our ECS programme and have received good feedback from staff who have attended so far. Our vacancy gap has greatly reduced and by the end of the financial year we should be nearly fully established across all three areas which is a fantastic achievement.

In the next few weeks our latest CQC report will be released. I can assure you that myself and the management team will review this with our Staff Engagement Group, to identify ways in which we can improve future reports and build on the good work that you, as a team, deliver every day to our patients.

I would like to thank you for all your support and your continued professionalism in delivering a first-class service to our patients.
