Leadership message from Dorothy Hosein

Dorothy Hosein CEO

Hello! I hope that you are well and continuing to cope with the ongoing stresses and challenges of the pandemic.

As the lockdown begins to ease I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that precautions need to remain in place in terms of social distancing and hand washing to keep each other and our patients safe. It is also important that these measures apply to both our work and social environments. Currently management teams are completing risk assessments to ensure that work environments are safe but where possible home working continues. In my team we are all working differently and embracing the changes the pandemic has brought forward, for example our Trust Board was held yesterday on a virtual platform. We are all getting used to holding virtual meetings and actually now appreciate the efficiencies and advantages meeting virtually provides.

Dr Tom Davis

Since the Director of Clinical Quality and Improvement left the organisation in November we have had the opportunity to review both the structure and portfolio of the Medical Director role. This review has also included the other clinical functions in the Medical Directorate. Following this review it became apparent that there was an opportunity to develop a single clinical directorate responsible for quality, safety and clinical transformation and effectiveness. This would have benefits in bringing together these closely related functions in one directorate. This integration of structures and processes has recently enabled a more effective and standardised delivery of clinical Key Performance Indicators. Dr Tom Davis, Medical Director will hold responsibility for this directorate.

Following approval by the Trust Board and the Remuneration Committee Tom has also accepted the role of Deputy Chief Executive and will act as accountable officer in my absence. I am looking forward to working more closely with Tom and am extremely grateful for his continued hard work and the passion and enthusiasm he demonstrates for our staff and patients.

I hope that many of you will have already seen the video introducing the BME network. I am extremely proud to be part of this incredible group and look forward to delivering on our goals throughout the year.

I want to reiterate my request for us all as an organisation to become anti racist and to become allies of the BME network to move this agenda forward.

Thank you for all your continued hard work to keep our patients and each other safe. Please take care and stay well.
