I wanted to start with a thank you to all those working in this extremely hot weather. I absolutely appreciate the difficulty this can create for all of us working hard to maintain a service for patients. I hope you are all managing to keep well and hydrated, as the demand on our services increases.

Yesterday, we held the Annual Public Meeting (APM) in Melbourn. This is a fantastic opportunity to present to our stakeholders, the great work we have completed during the year. I was so impressed by the staff presentations this year from ECAT, Safety Huddles and Patient Transport Services (PTS), with their twiddle muffs. Each presentation really highlighted the great work of our teams to improve patient safety. As we know, this work is all going on whilst we are under intense daily pressure.


After the presentations, we received some constructive questions from our Community First Responder and Volunteer colleagues.

"We are totally committed to our volunteer teams and extremely grateful to these wonderful people who give up their own time to help our patients. However,  I recognise there is room for improvement."

The whole of the Melbourn building was filled with stands, showcasing the work we are progressing and the groups and support networks that you have established, to support the wellbeing of staff.

I was particularly impressed by the LGBT badge and pledge. I was pleased to accept my badge and pledge to a be friendly ear, in response to hearing that LGBT patients still face inequalities in their experience of healthcare, which is completely unacceptable. Anyone interested in signing the pledge please contact the LGBT team.

At the APM, we also highlighted a number of areas for improvement and our plans to deliver significant changes in the coming year.

Last Friday, I attended the newly updated Southend on Sea Make Ready Hub and vehicle workshop. A celebration event was held to mark the completion of the Southend Hub and the handover of the Stevenage and Chelmsford Hubs. This exciting project will mean that we can prepare and service vehicles on site and can speed up the process to ensure vehicles are back out and ready to respond to patients quicker. These new Hubs also feature improved facilities for crews. You can read more about Make Ready here

Finally, you should have heard from your line managers today, that the Executive team agreed this morning to personally fund an ice lolly for every member of the Trust. We hope this small gesture will demonstrate our appreciation for everything you are doing for our patients.
