Leadership message from Dr Tom Davis

Dr Tom Davis

As you know, the new national COVID-19 restrictions start today, designed to help take some pressure of NHS services as we head into winter.

Building on our experience earlier in the year, we have been working hard to make sure we have the additional staff, PPE and other resources in place to help us respond effectively again through what will be another challenging period ahead. We need to keep you safe as well - and you can read an update on how our plans fit with the latest guidance here.

Thank you to everyone who has completed the Workplace Harassment Survey so far. It was due to close at midnight tonight, but given it was half term last week and that we continue to see a significant number of responses every day, we are keeping it open until midnight on Monday. If you haven’t already done so please do take the time to tell us your experiences of working here, good and bad. The link is here. Once the survey closes, we will be analysing the results and plan to share these with you at the end of the month.

Yesterday, the leadership updated the CQC, NHS England and a range of stakeholders on our progress on the issues raised by the CQC’s report in September, including progress on the harassment survey and feedback from the virtual staff sessions. We are producing an updated progress report for the November board meeting, which I will share with you all and the virtual staff sessions will start up again next week

I am delighted that as part of the extra support promised through special measures, Juliet Beal will be joining us as Director of Nursing, Clinical Quality and Improvement for the next six months. As a highly experienced nurse and midwife, Juliet's previous roles include national Director of Nursing for Quality Improvement and Care at NHS England, executive roles for acute trusts and commissioners, and as an advisor for the Care Quality Commission. During her time with us, Juliet will be the lead for clinical quality, providing valuable additional capacity to the leadership team. I am sure you will all welcome Juliet, and you can read more about her experience and background here

I know this has been a difficult time for staff here at EEAST and it is important that your efforts and dedication are properly recognised. Given the COVID-19 restrictions, we have decided to postpone the Stars of EEAST staff awards planned for next month to June next year. This will give us time to plan a proper extravaganza where we can properly celebrate this year’s and next year’s winners for this year together.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, please do fill in the survey, and stay safe.
