Leadership message from Julie Hollings, Director of Communications and Engagement

Julie Hollings

I have been with the Trust for just over a month now and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone I have met so far for making me feel so welcome.

Being new to the ambulance service, I have been trying to get out and about to see the service we deliver in action. It’s clear to see that we have a really dedicated and motivated workforce who are working really hard across our patch.

I joined the Trust at winter which, of course, is a very busy time for the whole of the NHS. It’s a time when the Trust is in the media spotlight even more than usual and within the Communications Team we have been dealing with a high level of media interest. But I’m pleased to say that vacancies within the team have now been filled and we are in a good position to respond. You can see the completed team on 'Meet the Comms and Engagement team'.

I believe we have a good story to tell about the Trust, the improvements we are making and the people who work for us. Good communications will be key to this. Continuing to attract great people to work here is very important, so one of my objectives will be working on developing our reputation and profile and communicating the benefits of working for EEAST.

But equally important is the engagement part of my role. For me engagement is all about listening to people’s views and creating a dialogue. We want to continue to do this with our patients and public. But just as important is staff engagement and making sure that we have channels in place to capture your views and ensure that you can influence the things that impact on your working life.

So, I am keen to hear your views on EEAST – the good things about working here and where we need to improve – as well as feedback on the way in which we communicate. Feel free to post a comment below, or to email me or internalcommunications@eastamb.nhs.uk. I also want to continue to get out and about – as do the rest of the communications team – so please invite us to see your station or team.

I look forward to hearing from you.
