'It paints an exciting picture of a positive future' - leadership message from Nicky Ward, Head of Strategy and Transformation

I hope you are all keeping well in this extremely hot weather. Having been on call this week, I understand the challenges this brings, so would like to say thank you to you all for your hard work and dedication in these difficult conditions.

I want to focus today’s leadership message on a very important document which will impact positively on the way we all work for the coming five years – our new corporate strategy.

The strategy was developed with your help, together with patient representatives, volunteers, charity and emergency service partners and colleagues from our sustainability and transformation partnerships and integrated care systems.

It outlines how we will achieve our ultimate aim of keeping patients and staff at the heart of everything we do while delivering our vision of ‘outstanding care, exceptional people, every hour of every day’. It also explains how we will further transform EEAST into an exceptional place to work, learn and volunteer, and one which reflects the rich diversity of the communities we serve.

We spent a significant amount of time listening to you during the consultation period, as your feedback has been vital in ensuring that our destination on this journey was somewhere you wanted to be. A huge thank you for your enthusiastic responses, which were analysed for themes and key messages – good and bad – before they were presented with evidence to the Board. Your comments completely influenced our new vision and four goals, which focus on our staff, quality of care, collaboration and sustainability. They also played a huge role in the development of our all-important enabling strategies, which explain what we are going to do, both now and in the future, to deliver on those goals.

I am really excited about this strategy, and hope that you will share my enthusiasm for it. I believe it gives us as a real opportunity to work even better together, not just across our Trust, but also with our partners.

It paints an exciting picture of a positive future, where we will collaborate more effectively than ever before to find innovative ways to deliver care closer to home and keep patients out of hospital safely and appropriately.

It also describes the key role our Trust will take as we continue to transform emergency services to meet the growing needs and expectations of our region while meeting the very highest performance standards.
