Leadership message from Sudha

Sudha Pavan

This is the first time I am writing to all of you, as the Deputy Director of People and Culture Directorate. I am extremely excited to be coming into this role which has tremendous responsibility and opportunity within the ambulance services and I look forward to working closely with all of you.

I want to share a few thoughts with you on the recent unfortunate events that have taken place and the management support for you. Whilst it is hard for us to grasp that such incidents could take place in our very own work environment, and as difficult as it maybe we are here to ensure that each of us looks after the well-being of our colleagues, in addition to all the other specialist and well-being support extended to you by the Trust. These incidents further reiterate the care and resilience that we need to build within the ambulance service.

I would like to continue developing an open door policy and transparency within EEAST to ensure we are building an organisation that is happy and a great working environment, in order to fulfil our day to day responsibilities and care as the public service organisation.

I would like to engage with as many of you as possible on a regular basis and utilise the knowledge and experience that all of you have in creating this environment to be seen as the best place to work within the ambulance service. Whether it is in confidence or in open forums, I want to ensure that we have the ability to voice our opinion without having the fear of any repercussions.

In EEAST we take all allegations of harassment and bullying very seriously and as you are aware, we have commissioned an independent investigation to ensure that we get to the bottom of what has taken place in the recent times. Whilst ensuring confidentiality of information from staff we will not be able to comment any further on this investigation.

We have in place many speak-up sessions, executive engagement forums, this is in addition to the policies and practices that encourage staff to come forward, to air any concerns. The main objectives of these sessions are to ensure that any work-place conflicts can be addressed and any personal emotions can be supported as appropriate. It is my wish to ensure that we create a happy environment and whilst we all move towards the holiday season, I would like to reiterate that I want us to build a family environment at work as well.

Please feel free to reach out to me at any point to discuss any concerns you may have.

We are compassionate in the care for our patients and I know you are compassionate for the care and wellbeing of each other.

Thank you for your continuous and relentless hard work.

Best wishes
