Leadership Message Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith

As you’ll all be aware we have a potential EU exit date looming of the 31st October.  I’m sure (unless you’re just visiting from Mars!) that you will have seen the continuing debate around the issue and more importantly the real uncertainty about what it means for us all, whether at work or in our personal lives.

As an NHS Trust we have to ensure that we are as prepared as we can be for the possible implications if and when EU exit occurs and whether this involves a ‘deal’ or ‘no-deal’. We have been working with colleagues across the NHS and Department of Health and Social Care and in particular other ambulance trusts and emergency services to understand the issues we may face and what we can do to mitigate these.

As a result of this we have a comprehensive ‘EU exit Plan’ that is intended to ensure we can continue to provide a safe service to our patients. We will, of course, be ready to adapt this plan for any as yet unforeseen consequences.

The Trust has a strong resilience function which was rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC at our last inspection and this team led by Jon Moore has been at the forefront of developing our Plan. In particular, I would like to thank Darya Wotherspoon for her considerable efforts in ensuring we are as ready as we feel we can be. Darya has also done a terrific job of answering the numerous queries we receive from our many stakeholders!

We have also produced some Questions and Answers to address any concerns you might have. This guides you to where to go for further information if needed.
