Long service and excellence celebrated in Ipswich

The outstanding contributions to patient care and remarkable careers of EEAST staff were the focus of a special awards ceremony of celebration last night in Ipswich.

More than 300 staff and stakeholders attended the ceremony at Trinity Park, where awards for 20, 25, and 35 years’ long service were given and the Queen’s Medal for long service and good conduct, a medal especially for ambulance staff, was presented on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen by the Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk.

The award winners have clocked up more than 1,000 years’ service between them.

Chief Executive Anthony Marsh also awarded more than 40 members of staff and emergency service colleagues for bravery and professionalism with a Chief Officer Commendation. Often these were for outstanding examples of patient care, including an RTC where the vehicle was sinking in mud, a group of staff who disarmed a patient with a knife and a two-and-a-half-hour 999 call.

Anthony Marsh said: “I started my career in the ambulance service nearly 30 years ago, so I know what a difficult job our staff and volunteers have. I am very proud to lead this ambulance service with such passionate and motivated staff and volunteers, who work day in and day out to help patients, often in their greatest hour of need.”
