A group of staff from south Bedfordshire will be swapping their greens for running gear as they take on the Milton Keynes festival of running to raise money for charity.

They will all be running either the 10k, a half marathon or the mammoth 20-mile race on Sunday, 5th March.

All 25 ‘runners in training’ will be raising money for Keech Hospice; a Luton based charity which provides essential care to adults and children who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses.

Emergency Medical Technician Jon Sayer, who will be running the 10k, said: “We chose the charity as we frequently take patients from south Bedfordshire to the hospice for respite and end of life care.”

The team have been challenged by Bedfordshire Police to raise as much money as they can for their chosen charities. Colleagues from the police will also be at the run.

Jon added: “At the moment we are doing our own individual training and it’s going well. We have quite a few first timers, but all credit to them taking on the challenge, because it's not an easy thing to do.”

As well as the run, the group are busy organising a Valentine’s disco on Friday, 10th February, and an open day at Luton ambulance station on 25th February (more details to follow soon).

The disco will be taking place at 7-11pm at Joseph’s Hall in Luton. Tickets are available by emailing jonathan.sayer@eastamb.nhs.uk, and are £10 each.
