Marathon man Martyn crosses the finish line

Martyn mid marathon

Congratulations to Martyn Pollard, who has run his first marathon and raised more than £2,000 for charity!

The paramedic, based at Ampthill, completed the London marathon last month in aide of Arthritis Research, a charity very close to his heart.

Martyn said: “My wife has rheumatoid arthritis and has had it from the age of 38. She used to be a call handler for EEAST at Bedford EOC, but the arthritis and treatments made her immune system very low. This made working shifts very tough and physically draining.

“The best thing about taking part in a race like the London marathon is the support. Strangers calling out your name telling you that ‘you can do it’, or ‘not far now’, or ‘great effort’. Then the sense of achievement once you have finished, knowing that all the times you had to go training in the cold or wet (or both) made this possible.”

You can still sponsor Martyn for his 26-mile efforts – please visit his JustGiving page.
