Medical devices: make sure it's safe and in date

New defibrillator 2 May 2014

We all know that medical devices must be serviced and ‘in date’ to be safe.

It’s also recognised that some devices will, on occasion, move around and find their way into cupboards and the boot of cars. These devices can and do sometimes miss the routine planned scheduling of inspection and maintenance, despite the search efforts of the clinical engineering team.

Please help us to keep our equipment safe, serviced and compliant by finding and presenting equipment to either our engineering or fleet team. If you find equipment that is past its service date, please do not use it or let others use it; please ‘quarantine’ the device, tell your line manager/supervisor and contact the appropriate team depending on the label:-

Clinical engineering labels look like this:

If the device has one of these labels, please contact the team at clinicalengineering@eastamb.nhs.uk,  or on 01638 582225, who will ensure it is inspected and serviced, and then returned to you.

The fleet labels look like this:

If the device has one of these labels, please contact your local fleet service team, or use the fleet office numbers as below:

  • Norwich office: 01603 422795
  • Chelmsford office: 01245 444529
  • Norwich workshop: 01603 422777
  • Barton Mills workshop: 01638 515143
