Medicine management SOPs

The Trust has approved a number of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the safer management of medicines, which include:

• Medicines adverse reaction /medicines error management protocol (including near miss events)
• Ordering morphine sulphate ampoules from Colchester Hospital pharmacy
• Disposal of out-of-date drugs and denaturing of controlled drugs
• Unsecured or found drug protocol
• Drug safe/key has been lost/stolen/unaccounted for protocol (including record keeping discrepancies)
• Labelling of medication – syringes, additives & TTAs.
