Mobile vehicle cleaning to be available at acute trusts

AFAs cleaning ambulance

The mobile VCO service is now live across the EEAST region at nine hospital locations, with more being brought online in coming weeks.

The new service supports crews with a quick turnaround for the cleaning of low-level, non-AGP COVID-19 contaminations.

The service will not replace the need for crews to complete their regular between-patient cleans, but supports a faster turnaround when the VCOs are available, and the criteria for the clean is met.

AGP COVID-19 contamination guidance still stands, and will require the vehicle to return to the local station/hub for decontamination.

The additional mobile cleaning service is now available at these main receiving hospitals:

  • Watford
  • Basildon
  • Chelmsford
  • Southend
  • Peterborough
  • Addenbrookes
  • Colchester
  • Ipswich
  • Bury St Edmunds

The VCOs are managed by Make Ready supervisors, and are IPC trained locally.
They wear red polo shirts and black trousers, so they can be clearly identified.

You can find further information and guidance on what level of decontamination is required in the hospital cleaning process and the EEAST decontamination flowchart.
