Mobile vehicle cleaning to be available at acute trusts

An additional mobile vehicle cleaning service will be launching later this week across the EEAST area.

The new VCOs will support the service currently being provided by the Make Ready Teams at the 19 hub locations around the region with the aim of ramping up the service to be as close to 24-hour as possible over the coming weeks.

The additional mobile cleaning service will be available at the main receiving hospitals:

  • Luton and Dunstable
  • The Lister, Stevenage
  • Princess Alexandra, Harlow
  • West Herts Hospital Trust
  • Hemel Hempstead
  • Bedford
  • Royal Papworth
  • Addenbrooke’s
  • Peterborough City
  • Hinchingbrooke
  • Basildon and Thurrock
  • Broomfield
  • Southend
  • Norfolk and Norwich
  • James Paget
  • Queen Elizabeth
  • West Suffolk
  • Colchester
  • Ipswich

The aim of the service is to provide crews with a quick turnaround, for cleaning of low level, non-AGP COVID contaminations. Crews are still be expected to maintain their between patient clean regimes, but the VCOs will be able to assist and support these cleans and try to speed things up to get crews back on the road.

As a reminder, the 19 existing locations are:

  • Basildon
  • Bury St Edmunds
  • Cambridge
  • Chelmsford
  • Colchester
  • Harlow
  • Hemel Hempstead
  • Huntingdon
  • Ipswich
  • Kempston
  • King’s Lynn
  • Longwater Norwich
  • Luton
  • Peterborough
  • Southend
  • Stevenage
  • Watford
  • Waveney
  • Welwyn Garden City

The VCOs are managed by Make Ready supervisors, and are IPC trained locally. They will be wearing red polo shirts and have black trousers, so they can be clearly identified.
