More volunteers join ambulance ambassador group

Ambulance ambassadors April 2014

The Trust welcomed nine more volunteers to become ambulance ambassadors this week and gave them specialised training to enable them to reach out to their communities.

Last year, the Trust set up the group of ambulance ambassadors to talk to people living in their area about EEAST and the work we do. The ambassadors give an accurate and honest picture of how the Trust is performing and promote the things we are doing well, as well as listen to feedback and pass on the community’s views to the Trust.

The nine volunteers came to the EEAST HQ in Melbourn on Wednesday (30th April) and were given guidance on how to give presentations, how to setup and organise talks within their community and how to answer questions about the service.

Thelma Nickerson, who is already a Trust User Group member said: “It’s been a very informative and enjoyable day. I feel really spurred on to talk about the ambulance service to my neighbours and friends.

“I started to volunteer with the ambulance service after the crews who attended my husband did everything they could to save his life. Unfortunately they couldn’t save him but the service was so marvellous I have been involved ever since.”

Thelma, who was a teacher for 29 years in Chelmsford, now intends to talk to small groups of people about the Trust, carry out discovery interviews with patients and distribute Trust leaflets.
