A new provider has been selected to run patient transport services across Great Yarmouth, Waveney and Suffolk from 1st April, 2018.

E-zec Medical Transport Service has been awarded the five-year contracts to transport patients who have a medical condition which means they cannot use any other form of transport without risking their health, or have specific mobility issues or need the skill and support of staff during the journey.

The contracts – one covering Great Yarmouth and Waveney and one covering Suffolk – have been awarded following a competitive tendering process. It was carried out jointly by NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG and NHS West Suffolk CCG.

Liz McEwan, Head of Non-Emergency Services at the Trust, said:  “This is disappointing news after the PTS team have worked so hard to deliver these contracts for a number of years. I would like to thank all our staff, volunteers and managers who have helped deliver this service to patients. We will be working closely with the commissioners  to ensure we continue to deliver high quality services up until the changeover of provider.”

Chief Executive Robert Morton said, “Our Trust Board wants to explore every opportunity to increase our involvement in Non Emergency Patient Transport. Therefore, the announcement that we will not be delivering care to these patients in Suffolk and Great Yarmouth in the future is extremely disappointing. We strongly believe, that we, as an NHS Trust, are best placed to deliver patient transport services across the region.”
