New Sickness Absence Management policy

Transparent EEAST crest

The Trust has reviewed the Sickness Absence Management policy, in partnership with elected UNISON representatives Michael Whitcombe, Graham Hillman, Jessica Micallef and John Hammond. The new policy has been established in order to streamline and clearly define the management process by combining the current policy and procedure.

There is now stronger ownership throughout the process and the right language and tone to ensure individuals’ health and wellbeing is at the core of all that management needs to consider when making business decisions regarding the management of absence in the context of day-to-day activity.

In addition to the new policy the Trust has also been working on training materials for managers to further support those that are managing sickness absence. Some of you may have had the opportunity to attend pilot sessions previously and further sessions can be arranged for management teams as well as copies of the materials via your local HR colleagues.

As of 8 November 2018 the new policy will be live and in use for new sickness absence cases, for those that are currently being managed under the existing policy this will continue to be the case until the period of absence has ended in which case any future period of absences would be managed under the new policy.

Please familiarise yourself with the new policy which can be found here and in the document library section on EAST24.
