New SORT training dates available

SORT

If you would like to join our specialist operations response team (SORT), then new training dates are available over the next few months.

The team helps at a variety of ‘extraordinary’ incidents e.g., mass casualties, evacuation, chemical, severe weather conditions etc.  In these situations, the SORT vehicles and equipment are a huge support to our operational colleagues and of course our patients.

You don’t need to be clinically trained in order to join the team, but you will need to bring enthusiasm and a willingness to participate in a call-out system. The initial SORT training takes place over two days and includes sessions on the deployment of specialist vehicles and associated ancillary equipment and the decontamination of casualties. You will be required to update your skills twice a year either by attending refresher training, or an exercise or preferably both.

The support of your line manager is essential, so please ensure they authorise your application form before submission.

If you’re interested, download an application form. As it’s a mix of theory and physical practical you’ll need to attend a medical assessment before starting the training. Upcoming course dates and locations are:

  • 8th and  9th April – Great Notley, Essex
  • 6th and 7th May – Hellesdon, Norwich
  • 24th and 25th June – Peterborough, Cambridgeshire
  • 15th and 16th July – Waveney, Great Yarmouth
  • 2nd and 3rd September – Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire

For more information or to book, please complete the attached form and send to epcourses@eastamb.nhs.uk.

For your safety, and that of those around you, you should please ensure that you attend on a rest day, haven’t just completed a night shift, or be about to commence a night shift.
