NHS Rainbow Badges

Jim Graves Dorothy Hosien Tracy Nichols and Shane Finnegan 240719

We are very proud to formally release the NHS Rainbow Badges all across EEAST.

Following their approval at the July Trust Board, the Rainbow Badge initiative will now be rolled out to all staff in the Trust who wish to make their pledge and take part.

Wearing a rainbow badge is a way for our staff to show that this is an open, non-judgemental and inclusive place for people that identify as LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, the + simply means that we are inclusive of all identities, regardless of how people define themselves.)

By choosing to wear this badge, you are sending a message that “you can talk to me”. You aren’t expected to have the answers to all issues and concerns, but you are a friendly ear, and will know how to signpost to the support available.

Jim Graves, LGBT+ group Chair said “This is a fantastic step the trust has taken towards showing its support for the LGBT+ community and we are proud to be the first ambulance trust in the country to adopt this initiative”.

Tracy Nichols, Director of Clinical Quality and Improvement said: “I am delighted that the rainbow badge pledge scheme is moving forward and available to all staff.  This is such a great opportunity to help send a positive message of inclusion here at EEAST”.

"I’d also like to thank our LGBT+ group and their Chair, Jim Graves, for all their hard work in championing this scheme and administering the badges.”

Those who have made your pledge and requested badges already, please note that these are on their way to you now.

  • Operational staff: Your badges will be sent to your Line Manager who will issue your badge to you.
  • Support staff: Your badges will be sent direct to your office or workshop.

If you’d like to take part and have not yet signed up, please read all of the information on the information sheet attached below, which gives an overview of the issues and why it's important for all healthcare staff to be aware of them.

Operational, AOC and Training school staff please see your local managers who will issue your badges.

Support staff, please contact lgbt@eastamb.nhs.uk
