NHS staff survey results – what’s happened?

RRV with blurred paramedic

Your feedback on working at EEAST is really important and does have an impact. Here are some examples of the changes and progress across the service since the last staff survey.

You said: You still feel under pressure to come into work when unwell.

We have:

  • worked with UNISON colleagues to produce, launch and train managers on a new sickness absence policy.
  • introduced the new temporary redeployment process, supporting staff temporarily unable to undertake their substantive roles.

You said: You don’t feel the organisation takes positive action on health and wellbeing.

We have:

  • rolled out ‘spot the signs’ training for all managers
  • reviewed and restructured our in-house wellbeing services
  • introduced a new Employee Assistance Programme support
  • provided extra wellbeing support through COVID pandemic

You said: You don’t feel that you received clear work objectives during your appraisal, and your appraisal didn’t make you feel valued.

We have:

  • appraisal rates have increased to 75%
  • revised the appraisal process in line with standards set across the ambulance service
  • introduced pilots for career development programmes have commenced in PTS and AOC

You said: You don’t feel able to make suggestions to improve the work of your team.

 We have:

  • Worked with Trade Union representatives in developing policies and procedures and guidance during the COVID response. This has enabled new channels of communication at Trust and regional levels with staff representatives
  • Strengthened role of local staff survey action plans to increase engagement in decision making processes at a local level.
  • Team huddles provide an opportunity for communication between managers and staff

We know that not every region, station or office is the same.  There may be more specific local actions required.  That is why your managers have been working with you to develop local action plans.

Thank you again for taking the time to tell us what is working well and where we can improve how we manage our people, performance and progress.  Our commitment is to make your working experience excellent and we will continue to address our improvements until this is the case.
