Norfolk CFR awarded ‘Wellbeing Champion of the Year’!

John CFR award

John Hodgson has won the South Norfolk Community Awards, ‘Wellbeing Champion of the Year.’

John joined the Poringland Community First Responders four years ago and has given thousands of hours of his own time to attend life threatening medical emergencies on behalf of EEAST.

There are a number of people within the local area who owe their lives to John, along with many more who have been looked after and reassured by John's attendance and skills.

Furthermore, John has tirelessly raised funds to equip the village of Poringland with three public access defibrillators. These have recently been installed at strategic points around the village. John has also organised free training for members of the public in in how to use the defibs to save lives.

Andrew Barlow, Community Response Manager for Norfolk, Waveney & West Suffolk said, “It has been a pleasure to work with John who has helped to support the great work of the Poringland CFR Group. He has been a great ambassador for the trust in helping to promote the work of the CFR team, recruiting new members and attending county events, as well as establishing a number of CPAD sites in the local community.”

The award included a cheque to the value of £250, which John has presented to the Poringland Parish Council – Defib Maintenance Fund for long term defib management and replacements.

It was a spectacular night for our CFRs as Steve Maddams, CFR for Wymondham and NARS First Responder, was also nominated and was runner up for the ‘Wellbeing Champion of the Year’ award.

Upon receiving his certificate, Steve said, “I am honoured to be chosen as runner up in the South Norfolk District Council awards in the Community Wellbeing Category and would like to thank whoever nominated me. I have responded to over 1,500 patients in 5 years and I truly love giving back to my community. Huge congratulations to John Hodgson for winning the category. This shows how well-regarded community first responders are by winning both 1st and 2nd in this category.”

Andrew Barlow also applauded Steve. “On behalf of the Trust I would also like to congratulate Steve on his award. Steve is a true example of a person who wants to give something back to his local community”

Many congratulations to John and Steve for their fantastic work
