Norfolk man reunited with his life savers.

Anthony Frost’s world was turned upside on the morning of 20th June when he collapsed at his home in Gorleston, Norfolk.

Thanks to immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from his son-in-law, Dom Wood, and the quick arrival of ambulance staff, they managed to get his heart restarted after he went into cardiac arrest.

The gardener was this week (23rd November) reunited with his life-savers.

The 45-year-old said thank you to paramedics Paul Rampley, Hayley Stevenson, and Rachel Bell, a University of East Anglia paramedic science student, who were on scene within seven minutes of the 999 call who continued CPR and used a defibrillator to restart his heart.

The father-of-two had returned home from walking the dogs when he collapsed in the kitchen of his home at about 9.40am. He remembers nothing of the week before and the week after his cardiac arrest.

However, he is hoping to return to work and get driving again in 2016 after he was taken to James Paget University Hospital in a critical condition and had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) installed in his chest at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Mr Frost said he had calmed down a lot since his health scare and was looking forward to finally tying the knot with fiancée of 27 years, Tracy, by taking her to Gretna Green in a refurbished camper van.

“I wanted everything tomorrow and I wanted to live life too quickly. You are not here long and I nearly didn’t make it to old bones.”

“It is nice to finally meet them [the ambulance staff]. I cannot remember anything from the day or them coming to see me in hospital. I am so grateful.”

Paramedic Paul added: “Without the efforts and team work of all involved that day the outcome for this gentleman may have been much different. A special mention to his son-in-law for his excellent pre-arrival CPR and also to my student Rachel who remained professional and calm. I cannot fault the effort she put in to help with the positive outcome once again for this patient.”
