Our latest Quality Account has now been published and contains a wealth of information on the care delivered during 2019/20 against our priorities.

The Quality Account is a mandatory report about the quality of services an NHS healthcare trust provides and is required to be completed in line with the Health and Social Care Act.

Quality reports and accounts are set against the framework of three overlapping key themes which can be used to define quality of care; Patient Safety, Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Experience.

The content is defined by NHS England and includes outcome results against specific indicators under five headings:

  1. Preventing people from dying prematurely
  2. Enhancing quality of life for people with long term conditions
  3. Helping people to recover from episodes of ill health or following injury
  4. Ensuring that people have a positive experience of care
  5. Treating and caring for people in a safe environment and protecting them from avoidable harm

Our latest Quality Account, which includes input from our commissioners and Healthwatch organisations says that the number of serious incidents and Healthcare Overview Scrutiny Committee, says that the number of serious incidents fell by 39% in the year and 51% of all serious incidents resulted in no harm to the patient.

Although the number of serious incidents remains higher than the national average, incidents of actual harm to patients still remains low.

We also performed significantly higher than the national average for the bundles of care to delivered to heart attack and stroke patients.

Unfortunately due to the impact of COVID-19, a number of local priorities were not met within the year, however we did publish our first EasyRead strategy for patients with Learning Disabilities and we also met priorities in relation to improvements within the Sepsis care bundle as well as feedback from younger people and dementia patients and their carers.

The majority of other local priorities were partly met and these have been rolled over into 2020/21 to enable us to build on and embed the improvements seen to date.

Dr Tom Davis, Medical Director, said: “Building on the Trust reorganisation of integrated governance, I am confident that with further development and refinement of the Integrated Board report, the Board, Commissioners and Regulators will have greater assurance regarding all aspects of the Trust’s performance including, and arguably most importantly, the quality of our clinical care.”
