Our paramedic wins a Star of Norfolk award

Allison Muffett, a paramedic from Sprowston, Norfolk has spoken of her pride after winning a Stars of Norfolk award. 

Alison was named hospital/ambulance person of the year at the Eastern Daily Press-run awards for her day job at the Trust and her volunteering with the SOS Bus in Norwich. 

She was nominated for the award by Beth Coley, commercial manager for the OPEN Youth Trust, which operates the SOS Bus that provides a safe haven for vulnerable people in Norwich’s clubland. 

Alison has been working on the SOS Bus for the last 18 months as a senior clinician at weekends and said she was “overwhelmed” by the award, which was presented on Thursday night (20th November). 

"Without a clinician from EEAST the SOS Bus wouldn't be able to operate on both a Friday and Saturday night as it only has volunteers from St John Ambulance working on the bus on a Saturday night. I know that all the SOS Bus volunteers are very thankful we are continuing to support them on both nights.” 

“Not only was I presented with a trophy, I received a voucher to go for a curry. 

“I also received a cheque for £100 for the SOS Bus which I presented to Rosalli Collins, general manager of Open to pay for a new water pump on the main SOS Bus,” she said. 

Chief Executive Anthony Marsh said: “On behalf of the Trust, I’d like to offer my sincere congratulations to Allison for winning this prestigious award. I’m pleased to see the work of our staff, and the amazing job they do every day, being recognised outside the Trust. Well done Allison.” 

Rod Wells, who has been a paramedic for EEAST for 25 years and has worked as a critical care paramedic for East Anglian Air Ambulance for the last 10 years, was also shortlisted for the same award. Rod, from Gorleston, also volunteers for Suffolk Accident and Rescue Service.
